Diary, 1809-1836; bulk: 1809-1813.

Diary (with an unverified typescript) kept by Abigail L. Williams, wife of Baptist minister Elisha S. Williams, from May 1809-9 June 1813. The diary was kept during her residence in Beverly, Mass. where her husband served as minister of the First Baptist Church. Williams describes her religious conversion, the move to Beverly, her life as a Baptist Christian, revivalism, and the religious climate. The entries also describe the tension and politics at work in Beverly prior to her husband's dismissal as minister there. The diary also contains references to the War of 1812 and a poem written by Rev. Williams in 1836. The collection also includes notes on Rev. William's military service during the Revolutionary War.
